The dampening impact of climate change has created an impetus for governments and organisations worldwide to implement green measures in order to minimise environmental pollution and implement sustainable technologies and practices. The area of technology catered to the green movement has immense potential and Boustead is performing our part for the environment through helping our clients to implement sustainable technologies and effectively manage resources.

Today, all four core operating divisions of Boustead - in energy, water, real estate and geo-spatial technology - are delivering solutions for environmental protection and sustainability.

Utilised at the back end of downstream oil & gas processes, Boustead International Heaters’ (“BIH”) waste heat recovery units have been installed by multinational and national oil & gas corporations to enhance the efficiency of existing refining processes by recycling flue gas or waste gas back into processes. In this way, harmful gas emissions are significantly reduced and the same gases that would have been released into the environment are recycled to reheat processes, thereby resulting in significant fuel cost economies to maintain optimal heat levels of processes. BIH is also a global specialist in process heater systems catered to major clean energy initiatives of the future such as liquefied natural gas, gas-to-liquids, hydrogen fuels and heat recovery steam generation.

Boustead also caters to the alternative energy sector through Boustead Maxitherm Energy’s solid waste energy recovery plants and mini-power plants with capacities of up to 20MW. These waste-to-energy plants convert agro-industrial waste and biomass into electricity, presenting a sustainable solution derived from solid waste which would otherwise have to be disposed of. The solid waste which is utilised as fuel becomes a cleaner and inexpensive resource to power industrial processes.

With many parts of the world suffering from water scarcity and depleting clean water resources, Boustead Salcon Water Solutions’ (“BSWS”) water and wastewater treatment plants are helping industrial and municipal clients to relieve the strain on clean water resources by delivering high performance water treatment solutions. Providing solutions such as seawater desalination, demineralisation and ultra-pure water production, BSWS is also a global specialist in wastewater recycling and recovery, which represents a feasible alternative to safeguard the supply of potable water and also reduce environmental pollution. In Singapore, BSWS designed and constructed the 55,000 cubic metres/day Phase II Extension for Bedok NEWater Factory, the first plant in the world to utilise commercial 16-inch reverse osmosis membranes. The Phase II Extension is a global showcase which exhibits how a high capacity plant can fit into a much smaller plant footprint, and provide greater cost economies and operational efficiency.

A heightened sense of environmental awareness has recently extended to the construction industry, where building designers and developers are encouraged to incorporate environmentally friendly and sustainable features in the conceptualisation and construction of buildings. BP has been a leader in delivering some of the most advanced green industrial facilities in Singapore including an advanced integrated manufacturing, logistics and office facility for Applied Materials that boasts the world’s largest solar panel array for a commercial rooftop and is the first building in the heavy industry category to receive the Green Mark Platinum. Currently, BP is on its way to achieving yet another accolade with the construction of the first industrial facility in the Seletar Aerospace Park earmarked for the Green Mark Platinum, a S$107 million advanced integrated manufacturing and support facility for world-leading jet engine manufacturer, Rolls-Royce.
